I was about to change the oil in my 93, i pulled it up the ramp when i pulled the emergency break i think the cable snapped. the handle is loose and the emergency break light on the dash stays on. Does that mean the emergency break is engaged? is this hard to fix. my main concern is that im not driving around with the emergency break on. any help would be appriciated. :cry
The emergency brake on the 91 was designed to be pushed down out of the way after it is engaged. Not sure about your 93. You may want to try this: pull the handle up, press the button and push the handle down. This should release the brake if it was set.
Re: Man this stinks...i need some help (Steel Blue 91)
Don't worry, I dont think anything it broken. Just pull the handle back up, hold the button in, and push it back down. If that doesn't work, pull the handle up, and then pull it a little more, as if u were gonna set the park brake on, and then push it down.
Re: Man this stinks...i need some help (Steel Blue 91)
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! THAT WAS IT  .
ive been driving around thinking it was broke, the car still moved, and rolled in nuetral so i thought it was broken. now i know what that funny smell is, the breaks burning up. this is why this forum is so great!!! :blueangel: :seeya
Haha. Yeah, that happened to me on my 85. The damn bulb was burned out on the dash, so I didn't know that my E-brake was on..sure felt like it was holding back. Luckily, I only drove about a mile or so like that, then I realized what had happened.
Ha ha....lets all make fun of the newbie now. its well deserved i feel like a dork, i really hope i didnt damage anything i drove about twent miles like that.
I think that we all have done that before. That is one stripe that most of us wear on our sleeve.  I have owned vettes for a decades, but my first ride in the new C4 ended up in embarassment when someone pulled up at the light and said that our vette was smoking from the rear. OUch!........Thankfully, it did not hurt anything more than my ego.
When I first got my '87, I stopped at a friends' house to show him the car. He has a steep driveway, so I set the e-brake. A couple of hours later I go to leave, and the car backed up just fine, but would not go foreward. I thought the same thing as you, that I had broken it. After about a half hour of tring to disasseble the silly thing, I figured it out. I felt like such a putz. :conehead
Re: Man this stinks...i need some help (92TripleBlack)
Don't feel bad at all. When I read your post I actually thought you broke it too, but then I realized since I drive a manual I'm just used to using it all the time.
Because of the way the e-brake is, I never take it to car washes where the stupid-azz 16 punk doesn't take the brake off :mad :mad :mad :mad That pisses me off sooo bad, because it's happened twice, and each time I've told them "MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE" But do they? NO! If they can't figure it out, why don't they ask. Oh well, I like washing my car myself anyway.
