Default AC Bracket Differences

So my AC bracket broke. Long story short I received another bracket but it's missing a hole. The hole that's missing goes to some sort of support bracket on the engine block. Does anyone know if it's needed? Apparently the bracket I received is the newest listed GM part number. I have a 1990.
My original has 10105236 stamped on the back, new one has 10055751.

I don't even see part number 10055751 listed in my parts catalog, only 10105236 for the compressor mount bracket.

If your going to be hooking the a/c back up then (Yes) ,You do need the back support...If your using an a/c delete bracket with pully then I don't think you need to use the support...When you eliminate the a/c and use the delete bracket you don't have the pressure on the mount like you do when the a/c is cycling on and off...I have been running mine without the support using the delete bracket for 4 years without any problems....WW

I just broke two of them, cheap cast aluminum, I don't have the rear bracket support. I would need a custom one for the header fitment, but I would suggest you keep the support brace on there.

Now since you say the new ones are cheaply made it's probably a good idea to use the support...The one I have on my 89 is pretty heavy duty and there's not much pressure on it with the A/C eliminated....WW

Your factory one is also cast aluminum and will break easier than you think, both of mine were from factory. My original and one off a 89.

I just did a search on here and it appears the 90 had 2 supports on the a/c bracket ...One on the bottom hole of the compressor mount to the #4 cylinder , and one from the hole beneath the tensioner to a bolt on the block off plate on the manual fuel pump mount....WW

Interesting. Well that explains my dilemma then! I found another one. Great dealings with Northern Corvette for my Canadian friends!

Hi

3 generations between 88-91 in a/c bracket design and support brackets. These support brackets have been added to stop the a/c brackets from breaking, they are surprisingly fragile.

See pics below where all the supports connect to.

10055751 would I'm sure been the earlier version of the part and likely replaced with the newer before '89 product was even released. I've an older SPO catalog and it seems to confirm that. In '88 there was initially only the bracket you have and the rear brace 10055753 - nothing else. Everything else added was a change from that primary bracket. If you want the other part you need to specify that casting number from whoever you're buying from.

Thanks for sharing that. The bracket on my 90' has all support braces that you posted. I assumed the bracket was the same from 88-91. I have another one on the way, just have to wait for it to get here.

Definitely needs to be a manufacturer of those support braces, or someone to make the bracket out of steel and not aluminum. The rear support will not fit with the headers, but I never had the other two pieces.

Hi

You should be able to get make the rear bracket fit the headers, I used a aluminum spacer to bolt the bracket to the standard exhaust bolt.
See the picture below.

The support brackets are becoming rare, the water pump to a/c bracket one i got of ebay. The mechanical pump block off plate to a/c bracket support i made from a piece of 3/8 steel, cut to a bit of an L shape with oxy and accetyline to clear the bottom radiator hose.

Easy to do use a piece of cardboard as a template (if you have a old engine in the garage is easy)

I have not broken an a/c bracket since fitting all 3 supports, that has been around 10 years now.

WARNING DO NOT BE ALARMED AND FALL OF YOUR CHAIR, THE STEERING SHAFT ON OTHER SIDE, she is a right hand drive C4
You can see where i had to cut a section out of the no. 4 header pipe to clear the steering shaft.

Dont worry about the peeling valve cover, it has been repainted grey.
