Anybody installed an aftermarket Hurst shifter in a ZR-1 without dropping the exhaust? If the exhaust is in the way can I unbolt from the manifolds, support it and leave the rear connected? I'm working in a one car garage so completely removing the exhaust won't work.

You didn't mention your car being a ZR-1 so the '91 would have two entirely different exhaust systems and you might do better just asking if it can be done on any LT1/4 without removing as the exhaust will be identical at the rear of the transmission.

That is what I did on my 94' LT1 coupe. I unbolted the exhaust system at the catalytic converters and dropped it down, I left the mufflers in their hangers so only the front of the system was on the floor. This gave me plenty of room to do the shifter install. Really straight forward process once you get everything out of the way.
TIP: Use a bungy cord to hold the rubber shift linkage bellow out of the way while you are working on the pin. Makes life much easier.
I have read that the ZF6 transmission does not like quick shifts. Im not sure if that's what your after. I maybe wrong (its been a long day). Im hoping someone else will chime in about my comment. I swear I read something about this before.
The stock eiffel tower shifter feel. To close to the radio. Also the rubber isolator must go.
I even threaded my hurst down lower then cut about 3/4" off.
Feels much smoother & natural.

The ZF loves quick shifts. The sychros, however, don't appreciate power shifting (IE-Never letting off the gas when clutching). You can shift as fast as you want.

How to practice your Shift Reaction Timing:
"Out of vehicle - While standing and balancing on your right leg, raise your left leg 7" up off the floor. Simultaneously tap the floor with the bottom of your shoe tip and snap your right hand fingers (ring/thumb) so as to make one combined noise between the two. Match'em 30 times in a row, and you're dialed in precision shifting."
