Default Baer Brakes Big Brake Kit...Need New Master Cylinder?

Just picked my big brake kit!

Baer Brakes Extreme+ 14" front and rear
can't wait to install them (I'll put some pics up after on this thread)

these are 6-piston front and rear, and I know they will be everything I dream for them to be, just wondering if the master cylinder moves enough fluid to power them?

Think I'll be ok or should I try and find a high volume master cylinder?

What year car? There are various MC bores and pedal ratios for the C4. Baer should provide all of the information you need for an effective install. What does Baer say?

I'd think you might get maybe a more thoughtful suggestion if you mentioned the package by part number that you've purchased.

New from Baer or just NEW to you?

they said there shouldn't be an issue, just wanted another opinion basically
seems like a lot more surface area to move, thats all

The kit is new from Baer

'96 has the largest diameter bore for the master and it also has the greatest pedal ratio available. Not much else to improve on with out a change to an after-market master.

That's a very interesting package - what do you have for wheels to accommodate the brakes? Diameter, width and offset if you don't mind.

Apparently one needs FBI top secret clearance to find out the Baer caliper piston sizes.
Without knowing the caliper piston diameter(s) the hydraulic ratio cannot be figured.

From the Baer web site:
Master Cylinder upgrade is recommended.

We have two styles of master cylinders to choose from, both are early GM cast iron style. These will work power or manual.

•15/16" Bore. Smaller bore size master will increase pressure and decrease volume. This will have a slighly longer pedal, but will generate more pressure so requires less pedal effort to stop. (#6150012)
•1" Bore - Larger bore, so more volume less pressure. A slightly firmer pedal, with slighly more effort than the 15/16". (#6150015)
End

92 through 96 Vette master cylinder is 15/16 bore.

C5 master is 1" bore however fit up & line thread size is unknown by this poster.

Luck with your project.

the wheels are TSW Nurburgring 18x9.5 up front and 18x11 rear with a 50mm offset
wrapped in 255/35 and 305/35 BFG rivals, respectively
wheels sit just a tad inside the body

Great info...Thanks!!
im gunna install them with the stock MC and see how they feel. may swap up to the 1" bore. I like the feel of less throw and harder pedal personally
feels more like I'm driving the car

Do these calipers just use the D0731 "generic" brake pad or a specialty pad?

"Churchkey" asked about piston diameter and if it uses the D0731 pad it can't be very substantial. In any of the install/maintenance information do they mention the piston dimension?

I'd say it should certainly be a "LOOKER" - a "STOPPER"? Let us know.

Looking forward to your review on these! I have also been eyeing a Baer system for my 94 Z. I like how they take care of the e-brake issue that a lot of other manufacturers don't address. I'm in the process of going through my suspension replacing all the bushings and swapping out the shocks to coil overs. I'm running 18x10 and 19x12 so space isn't and issue. TSW's will look great on your car! Please post up some pics to go along with your review of the brakes!

Not yet sure which pad they use
same for the piston diameter. ill look it up in the paperwork or measure it. I haven't had a chance to install them yet. just got back from a month in Europe and still getting other things taken care of
I'm hoping they stop great. At least they wont fade like the factory brakes. I boiled the fluid and that's not exactly the greatest feeling

I'll get some pics up as I start the install

Suggest measuring all piston diameters, some manufactures use different diameter pistons in the same caliper.

If I'm not mistaken, Baer usually uses a stock C5/6 pad in their BBK's.

finally opened the box. these things are pretty impressive in my opinion
the pad is D1247 (DR11)
the pistons are different sizes. 2 are smaller than the other 4 that are the same

Well I apologize for even mentioning the D0731 pad, I believe I took that reference from a thread here on the CF and I see that's a pad they use on their lesser product.

Regarding the master cylinder, you might want to contact user WinstonC. He did a Wilwood master and proportioning valve kit with his brake package. Here's an initial thread where he mentions the purchase but I've not seen anything since the install. He certainly has "A NEED" for a "A PERFORMER".
