I recently installed an MSD 6A box along with a FAST computer system, and spliced the Tach output from the MSD box (grey wire) into my tach signal wire that goes to the dash. I do not have a tach filter (lost it) and my tachometer goes crazy above 3000rpm. Does anyone know what type of signal the MSD box outputs, and what type of signal the digidash needs?
There are certain times when the entire dash will light up, like when the car is being Keyed on. Mainly when the engine is increasing RPM at a very fast rate. Does the MSD cause a voltage spike to the dash?
Car is an 85.
I see MSD sells an adapter, however i want to make sure I know what I need before I just buy something.
....... I had a 6AL box and it has a port on the end for tach output , the 6A should be the same ... As far as I can see on the MSD wiring diagram , there is no Gray wire ... red (+12V) , orange (coil +) , black (coil -) , white (points) , violet , and green (magnetic pick-up) ..... The Main power leads are heavy gauge Red and Black and should be connected directly to the battery .........
My dual sync dist doesn't have a tach output, just the harness that goes to the ECM to tell it rpm speed. My 6A box has a tach output, (gray) small red (switched 12v), trigger wire (white), magnetic pickup (purple/green), and heavy red and black. I'll try to get you guys some pics

See if you can splice it off of the ground wire that pulses the primary winding of the coil. That's where the tach wire is usually hooked up to.
