As far as mechanically they are not that hard to work on, especially the engine bay because the whole hood and fenderwells are out of your way. I just pulled the tranny on mine two weeks ago, total time to elevate car and remove...3 hours, to put back in...4 hours. What I find to be a pita is the electrical gremlins. They seem to give me the most trouble and they are the hardest to diagnose, but most electrical probs were solved by late C4 models.

well i like all the responses so far :D

reason i wanted to ask, is because i will not let another mechanic (besides myself) touch any of my cars anymore, i've just simply gotten screwed over too many times

if i would of had a mechanic do all the work my 2 camaros needed, i would be about $5000 in the hole right now

its kinda a double edge sword with me..........i'm a mechanic, but i dont like the ones i had to deal with :boxing

last time i was set on getting a 6 speed vette.......this time i dont really care..........the vette is gonna be my daily driver and i am prolly gonne keep my Z28 for my project car........so i might actually prefer an 700R4 (or 4L60E, although i dont think i can afford that new, prolly 92/93 the newest)

oh yeah what year did they switch to the 4L60E 1993 OR 1994?

well, its great to be back here again, but i want my corvette already :D

good news is, i saved about $200 this week alone for a vette

once i meet my goal of $2000 for a down payment, i'm going to start looking :chevy

(some people think i'm a little too faithful to the almighty bow-tie)

The 700R4 was renamed the 4L60 in '93 and the 4L60E didn't show up until the 1994 run. The 4L60E is simply a 4L60 (700R4) with electronics.

hey thanx

i knew that the renamed the 700R4 to 4L60 and the 4L60E is the electronic one......................
the 4 is how many forward speeds it has
the L is for Longitudinal (meaning RWD car)
and the 60 is the torque rating

THEN they added the E for electronically controlled

now the C5 vettes use the 4L80E, which for all intensive purposes is a electronically controlled turbo 400 with an overdrive
that has a higher torque rating hence the 80 designation

i just saw conflicting information from several credible sources that said the 4L60E came out in 93 and others said 94

thanx though ;)

According to the back book, 94 is the first year with the automatic trans. with electronic controls for improve shift qualityand rpm shift-point consistently. Another safety added was that you have to depressed the brake in order to shift from park.
94 also has express down driver's power window

BTW, thanks for offering to help I'll e-mail you.
