Bose cross reference for main unit
I have a 93 Lt1 with the Bose stereo CD/Cassette. The CD player no longer will accept cd's and the am/fm tuning is iffy.
I would like to upgrade it to something more recent and don't want to have to do a Bose-ectomy and replace the entire system. It sounds good otherwise. What Bose head units are compatible for a simple install? Would love it if I could find something new that is compatible to the old system as well as fits the hole in my dashboard without any modifications being necessary.
I'm sure this has been discussed many times and don't want to bore anyone with a new thread so maybe someone could post a link to a previous discussion on this topic.
Again the speakers and amps seem to be in decent shape, and I think I could get by with the head unit. Maybe I could be pulled in another direction?

I have seen some Impala systems use a CDM and wondered if the head units would swap. I have an Impala ('03 or '04?) head unit but have not tried it since my Corvette's is working fine.
Anybody tried interchange swaps?

There are "local" shops that can do the same work but it's difficult to find any that "still do" - they're geared to the product that's in current builds that generate a work load that's easily managed. Parts for earlier units are issues for them.
The later GM unit's I'd think could be scratched as possible solutions because the audio options are all programmed through the BCM in nearly all of them. Upgrading one system to another if done with OE components requires a reprogram of the BCM and the head looks to the BCM to control functions.
There was a recent thread where a fellow installed a '95 Camaro Bose into an early C4 dash and it looked like it belonged. For a '90+ dash I don't think so because of the potential LED differences the multiple control ***** that are actually colored to match the interior and other components. That unit didn't use a CDM.

with above.My original CD player would not play CDs that I made but only store bought. Here in Orlando I went to FCS (Factory car stereo) and exchanged the CD player with one that was an different unit and an upgrade. I did the work myself and only did the "exchange" with them (for a fee). It was a big improvement and all seems to be good now.

I had these guys do my 91 CDM and added an I-pod adapter, works great. I don't listen to CDs or tapes as the I-pod covers all.
