Default Working towards the 13's

Almost all of what I ordered has come in, still waiting on the converter and trans cooler. Below is what came in last night...

Here is the y-pipe with what seems to be a mismatched cat...

And lastly, the catback up close...

Maybe now I can get a 13, dont you think? :)

Mike

Headers will definitely help you out, however you should be able to run 13’s no problem totally stock! 14.9@ 91mph is way slow for an LT1. As an example, my Dad's 96 runs 13.5 13.6 @ 103 totally stock.

You may have other issues that are effecting your performance.

By the way…Nice Vette!

:yesnod: That will get you closer.

Have you been back to the track since you changed plug gaps? I'd like to know if that helped better your time slip.

I havent been back yet, as im leaving for Canada on saturday. I come back on the 1st of September and will be going back to the track on Monday. The headers wont be installed by then but hopefully with changing plug gaps and getting my other issues sorted, the numbers will improve GREATLY !!!!

That don't sound right you should definetly be in the high 13's with a stock LT-1.
My L98 ran a 14.1 when it was stock and the conditions were nasty.

Hey Jon and Mr. Magoo, I know it is a VERY pathetic number to run, and I was not very impressed. I have found a lot of issues with the car and they are being fixed/repaired/modified.

Mike

PS - I only lost by a nose to a 7.5 1/8 mile car in a street race, the vette is definetely faster than the number it put on the board...

That exhaust on an Lt1 one should put you in the mid 13s easily, but judging by your original times I don't know if the exhaust will get you there

Wow!! They are sweet looking headers! I must agree with the others that your car should be in the 13's with stock motor. The guy I bought my 90 from ran a 13.9 @ 98.4mph stock. With your new exhaust and proper tuning, you should see low to mid 13's easily. Good luck and congrats on your new toys :)

Thanks!! I fell in love with these headers when I pulled them out of the POP wrap (goes pop when you step on it at 3am)....

So far, the issues I have found wrong with the car are below. Not sure if they account for ALL of my performance loss, but they account for some:

1) plug gap .020 OVER
2) transmission had original fluid and filter
3) chrome rims are nice but weigh too much
4) original air filter = baaaaaad !!

Those FL headers will help, especially on an LT1.

Indeed that was a slow number for your LT1; I would suspect something is amiss.

They were rated at mid 13s bone stock. Even with bad weather and an elevated track it should be running low 14s to high 13s.

You might want to get a scan tool onto it to see what's up.

I am not sure where you are located Bravery, but if you are at high elevation that could severely increase your times.

Here at 6400 feet all naturally aspirated cars run 1s-1.5s slower.

Hope this helps

P.S. NICE SETUP REAL

Where did you get the headers, what model and how much? Man they look sweet. Nice looking vette! I know what you are going through, my vette isn't as fast as it should be right now. I am shooting for high 12's and I have a ways to go.

The hanger is pointing up and the pic was just a test fit to make sure it will all bolt together so the installer has no difficulties.

I could do the install myself but want the whole system welded, which I cant do.

TPIS is where I bought the complete system, paid $1400 including the catalytic converter, and its for an L98 but works on the LT1 cars...

Just curious, why did you go with a 3500 stall converter? Yank rec. a 2800 but when he found I had a 3.54 he said the 3000. Also I went with the low stall torque ratio as well. I look foward to seeing how the exhaust works for you. That seems to be the only legal full length header system for the LT1. I see you are in manassas as well. Sometime we will have to get together and go to the track.

I am going to MIR on September 2, you are welcome to come along. Just PM me for a number to get in touch with me and we can work out the details.

I went with a Yank SY3500 after talking with them, and taking into consideration my future mods. With the LT4 CNC'd topend package from MORE performance, there will be some low end torque loss, and im changing to a 373 gearset anyway, so they advised me to go with the SY3500 instead of the ST3500. The SY is more efficient in the midrange and topend than the ST. And with the lower STR, I stand a better chance of not breaking the D36.

As for my exhaust, it gets installed on the 24th and I dont know when I will put the converter in. Depends on if my trans keeps acting up or not. I may have to buy a new transmission as well....
