Default Vibration-common suspects?

Hello everyone. I have a vibration in the rear of my 85 Corvette. It seems most noticeable around 50-80 mph. I also notice that my wheel shimmys a little at those speeds.

What are the most common problems in regards to vibrations with these cars?

Thanks!

I agree, tires are the most common. Either bad or balance.

U-joints and/or half shaft u-joints can cause some vibrations too.

I have had bad tires and half shaft u-joint problems and both caused vibrations on mine.

for me it was half shaft u joints and one bad rear wheel hub.

got under car, safely, and it was plain as day.

Tires/wheels are the most common fault.

I would suggest finding a shop that uses a Hunter "Road force Touch" GPS 9700 machine to check them out. It will check balance, out of round tires/wheels etc. and advise the technician as to how to correct the problems.

To locate a shop try this link:

After using a couple of shops to no avail, the Hunter did wonders for my 1990.

if money and capital allocation are something the OP cares about, i suggest the op rule out the wheel hubs, search for wheel hub test, and rule out your u joints.

additionally lookup how to install "lugcentric" wheels and try again.

if all that checks out, then go to hunter road force balance.

or get a shop to do it all.
