I purcahsed a 1989 6 spd Corvette. I purchased the CAGS bypass. Has anyone used this. Any problems from using it.
I saw in R&T that the cars tops at at 140 mph because 6 th gear is so tall.
Has anyone ever changed just the gear in the transmission rather than the rear end? Just wondering.

thank you
I have it...it works fine, no problems. All it is, is a resistor, to simulate the resistance in the CAGS solenoid's coil.
You can change the transmissions gear rather than the rear end, simply by downshifting to 5th gear, then top out over 150.
I took the first part of the solenoid out and am in the process of plugging the hole. Anyone know the exact metric size for the hole? I found an old post that stated m20 but just wanted to clarify.
Both the C4 and the C5 made their top speeds in 5th. The 6th gear ratio (.50 IIRC) doesn't put the engine RPM high enough to provide enough HP/torque to overcome aerodynamic drag. The 6-speed C4 LT1 was capable of speeds around 157-160 or so in 5th.

I've never checked it because it's not actually required to remove it BUT I believe the M20 X 1.5 is likely correct and many imports use an M20 X 1.5 drain plug so any AP store should be able to sell you something to "test fit" and if you want to do something with a hex key similar to the drain and fill it should be no problem.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting to remove it either but with the trans out while correcting clutch-from-hell issues, I figured why not. ZF Doc confirmed the M20 x 1.5 but wouldn't you know it, the autoparts store had M18 and M22 but no M20 plugs. A trip to the hardware store will fix that. There was also a little pushrod and spring that came out behind the solenoid.
