Leaking injector - clean or replace?

Default Leaking injector - clean or replace?

I recently bought an 85 Corvette with 34K miles. It appears to me that this car sat with out being driven much over the past several years. One issue is that it looks like one of the injectors is leaking. I get a puff of smoke sometimes on warm startups, the fuel pressure drops about 15 psi right after shutdown, and the number 5 spark plug was wet and smelled like gas when I pulled it. So I am pretty sure I have a leaking injector.

My goal for this car is to make into a reliable "nice day" driver. So I am wondering what is my best long term option to fix this. Should I buy a whole set of new injectors or have them sent out to be cleaned? When I account for shipping it seems money wise a new set Accel injectors is only about $100 more than the cleaning service.

Anything else I should do for some preventative maintenance while I have the top taken apart? I also plan replacing the intake manifold gasket since one of the bolts was loose and squirting coolant when I got it (thankfully one that was easily accessible). I figure once I am there I mind as well.

I just replaced injectors in my 1985.
I used Bosch III's from FIC and I am very happy with them.
It appeared my car wasn't driven much by the previous owner lately as the injectors and fuel rail had a good amount of crusty build up.

From my research and confirmed by myself when I pulled them out, you should have original Bosch injectors that I've been told should respond well to removal and sent out for cleaning. With 34K miles on them, that's what I would do.

The only reason I didn't have mine redone was I had 6 original Bosch and two Accel injectors and I wanted to stay with a matching set.

Some people will say you have multec injectors but I don't believe they were used in 1985's.

Just my opinion.

Got mine from mike on here no issues they work great. Fyi you need 2 orings on the bottom of each injector if you got to the Bosh 3

Thanks all for the information! This forum has really been a great resource and I've fixed a bunch of stuff easily already by using this place. (Well except for that dang leaking O/D unit. )
