Dim under hood light

Dim under hood light
One of the lights is dimmer than the other I have tried a new bulb. Even a totally different light (LED). the volt meter reads the same as the other side but the light coming from the bulb is dimmer than the other side. could this be a ground problem and if so how do I fix it? Ive checked connectors, they seem tight

How? there is a black wire and an other wire . the funny thing is when I put the meter on the two wires it comes up as a positive voltage with the red pointer on the solid black wire. does that sound correct ? so I should assume the "other wire is the negative or ground. hope I don't sound too naïve.

I would attach the black probe to a chassis ground and then probe the two wires in the hood light. If you have some voltage on the black wire then there is a bad connection. The other wire should read about the same on both sides. If one side is low (which it must be if the light is dim), then you have a bad connection somewhere in the wiring supplying power to the light. Don't forget the power goes through the mercury tilt switch...
