Hi foilks, after not driving the Vette for a while (86 Z51) I took it out today and the trans was acting up. Slipping really bad in 2,3, and Drive but seems to work fine in OverDrive and Reverse. Any suggestions?
Drain and replace the fluid and replace the filter. If that doesn't solve your problems then take it to a trans shop.
I suggest a really dirty old place that's been there a million years vs. the shiny new place with high school kids rebuilding the transmissions.
To get a good performance transmission shop call TransGo Technical Support (they don't do support on their web site) and ask for a recommendation. They have a list of trans shops that know what they are doing.
That's a really strange condition. You mean the manual select 2/3/D ranges, but it's okay in the OD range?
There's a thing in there called a coast clutch, it gives your engine braking in the manual select ranges. (It also backs up the forward sprag) Sounds like a leak in the coast clutch circuit or a bad piston/lip seal.
Try what Cliff said and if that doesn't help? Leave it on OD till you can get it rebuilt.
