Default oil pressure sensor

I have just recently bought a 89 corvette, and its seems that the oil pressure has locked at 80 psi, it was working fine then suddenly, it read 80 and there are no fluctuations in pressure, even when i first start the car. Is there any way to check if the sensor is bad and where could i find out how to replace the sensor myself? I've looked in different books and can't find instructions on how to this. Any help would be highly appreciated.

The sensor for your gage is located on top of the motor near the dist. cap on the drivers side. According to my Haynes book it is the sensor closest to the left side. I don't think that replacement would be overly difficult, other than the access, as that area is pretty crowded.
some others may have more insightful feedback.

good luck, david

80psi is a telltale sign of a shot oil pressure sending unit. It has either failed or lost its ground connection. I would definitely plan on replacing it.

The sender is a HUGE PITA to get to. Had to pay my mechanic to get it off. According to the service manual, when you disconnect the sender and turn on the ignition, the dash should read 80 PSI. Maybe it's just disconnected. Good luck with the replacement.

If you look behind the left runner you will see two sensors, the oil pressure sender is the larger one to the left of the tower.

You may have to pull the runners to access it, or maybe not.

Put some Permatex thread sealer on the threads before installing the new unit.
