Default Ignition Wire Decision .

Which ones are you using? Are they the best? are there different wires better suited for different mods (like MSD) Are 8.8mm that much better than 8mm? I just want to get all info I can before I go get 'em.
Thanks

if you go bigger it is much harder to get them right with the looms and the hell hole

What antfarmer2 said!
If you haven't got a highly modded engine, stick with stock. It's just easier. You're not going to notice any improvement from a larger wire otherwise. Been there, done that - probably shoulda just stayed stock.

I had MSD because I got a hell of a deal on it. They were done on one end and you get a crimper for the other end which is nice since you can custom cut the length

MSD super conductors best choice. Currently using Magnecore wires mated up to my LTCC coil conversion.

I've been using taylor spiro-pro (8mm) custom fit on my L98 cars for 10 or 15 years now. around $55 thru summit. fit nicely, and no issues. will be installing my 4th set shortly.

Agreed. Go taylor this is what i have now.

I had msd wires before that. Really shoddy quAlity. If you ran the car in a dark garage you could see all kind of spark arc cing especially at the junction of the boot and wire. I had to wrap those junctions in electrical tape! And these were on brand new wires (msd)!!!

This was especially true at the coil to opti wire. It arcd bad against the water pump on my 93.

These bad msd wires were bought from summit in 01 so we are talking about a long time ago. Is it possible they have improved since then??? I dont believe so especially knowing the company has changed hands from original founders...

That said, my msd 6btm works fine (though i dont use the boost retard function).....

You got me nervous. I just checked. Bought them in 11 and no leaks anywhere. I like the MSD crimper for the job and I have changed plugs and cap and rotor annually so there is some activity. Also use plenty of Dielectric grease.

It sounds like whatever product you have is different than what i had.

The mad wires i had were already cut to length for the lt1
Yes i concur the dielectric grease is a good ideA.

I checked out the Taylors on Amazon for $54. Seems like a good deal compared to the price of the Accells or MSDs. I have headers and I believe stock wires now, 7 of the 8 wires have a 90* boot on both ends and one short one has almost a straight boot on one end . is this stock for an 84? I think 90* ends will work the best for a header application. is that what you guys with headers are using?

The almost straight one is for spark plug #6 to clear the oil dipstick tube.

Thanks Cliff, funny thing is over a dozen years ago when I bought the car I was wondering why the dizzy cover never fit right... it was because the pervious owner had the straight end up top. seriously!

8mm wires are a bear to get through the "hell hole" on the drivers side and also are not easy to get in wire looms.

I recently replaced mine with Delphi's I found on rock auto for a reasonable price. They looked exactly the same as the AC Delcos which were offered on the site as well, leading me to believe Delphi is the Delco supplier.

Good so far!

*Also, I have headers on the car

Easy fix for the hell hole is to loosen up the power steering pump and slide it forward.

Go with the ACCEL 8mm, I did and having a wonderful time with them. You will need to custom size them which isn't a big deal.

That is another fine choice. I went with MSD because I got the set and crimping tool for an excellent price. The tool makes crimping much easier than the dies Accel gave
