'85 Starter interrupt relay problems, will the bypass...

Key on/start completely dead - but dash lites up, no noise/clicks. Push/release the clutch pedal a few times, clutch completely to the floor, and the engine cranks. Doesn't matter what position it's in: reverse, neutral, or any gear (1-4) WTH? My impression is the pedal has to be all the way down before cranking starts but this is intermittant too, so perhaps coincidental.
One item that may mean something is, my interior lights dont come on when I open the doors, and the trunk button on Driver's door is inoperative. I can turn interior lights on at the headlight switch. Power door lock buttons work at both doors.
Thoughts anyone?
