I am trying to locate the oil temp sensor in the fsm. Mine is reading 320 degrees. I think mine is bad.
Thanks

On my 85, I believe it's down on the side of the black. Driver's side, by the oil filter.

It's on the side of the block above the oil filter. The green wire and connector surrounded by all the ground wires on G104:

For reference, the part looks like this:

I have the oil temp sensor out. Is there any way to test it. I am assuming that is bad because of the reading I get (320f).
Also can I get the part. I am told that it was discontinued by G M .
Thanks
Rich

Try these part numbers:

Airtex # 1T1076
Standard Motor Products TS159

About $60 at Rockauto

If its reading 320 when cold then yep its toast. If its reading that anytime its probably toast. Simple test is to just unplug it and see what it reads.

You can measure the resistance and it should correspond to a temperature per the following chart (yes, I know it says coolant sensor, but the temperature sensing element is the same):

I disconnected the sender and the gage reads low, so I guess the sender is bad. Ordered one from rockauto thanks to cliff.
Thanks
