Like to get rid of my 2.59's, whats the next step up. How much will it affect mileage or top end. Will I have to upgrade to dana 44, don't race much, just looking for a little more low end. Whats the approximate cost installed.
Thanks for any info.
Thanks for the info, Vader. What am I looking at for cost?? How much quicker is your 86 with the 3.07's.
Well i dont have numbers for comparison, but i can easily smoke the tires. Ive chirped them going into 2nd before. Not sure on cost of a D44 with 3.07s, but if you stayed with the D36 (just never run slicks) it shouldnt be much at all.

I have heard that from a 2.59 to a 3.07, it may not be a huge difference in acceleration (low-end), but Vadar knows what he is talking about, so I am probably wrong. hehe

Ok, whats the skinny on this, is 3.07 a big enough change, whats the next step up. Don't want to spend a thousand bucks and be disappointed.

I'd like to know too. I'm saving up for a gear change right after I get the car repainted...
Bob,
Go with 3:54's ! I had a 2:59 and went to 3:54 WOW! :D, unfortunatly they were from Florida Caliper :U broke while driving 40 mph from work. :mad I now have 3:73 from http://www.ikerds.com  Pat Ikerd is who owns the place, he supplies rearends to Mid-America Designs catalog.
My gas milage w/2:59 was about 29mpg with 3:54 about 24mpg and with 3:73 about 22mpg thats with cruise set and NOT getting on it. I average about 18mpg in town with interstate driving. And remember to read my mods list, thats with everything listed, not bad huh?
My tach runs about 2200 rpm @ 60-65 with 3:73, I believe it was 2000 @ 60-65 with 3:54.
I did the swap myself, 1st time about 3.5 hours. 2nd time about 2.5 hours, already knew what to do. I used a Chiltons manual.
You'll enjoy any gear swap!!
Mike
So my advice is at least go with 3:54's and no more than 3:73.
There is no doubt that Ikerds is the place to go. Good quality, great prices and shipped right to the door. Have my 3.07 from them in for over 2 years now.
PS: on the comment on parts in the kitchen and the Vette in the livingroom...like this is unusual!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
