Default Stereo question: 1994

I just bought a 1994 c4, and I love it (sold my c5, because I prefer the c4 look). It had an aftermarket stereo (junk) in it when I bought it. After extensive research (and mostly old, dead end threads), I have a few questions.

1. How can I tell if it had a Bose system or not before the PO did what he did (sloppy install)?

2. I also have the blinking SYS light, and although I know what resistors I need, I just don't know how to hook them up. Pictures of this would be huge.

Should I bypass the entire system and run all new connections (power, ground, speakers, antenna), or would I be better off to use the old harness, which appear to be in tact. It looks like the PO ran a new harness, but I cannot verify, as I have not gotten past the removal of the old deck. There are two blue plugs just sitting there, connected to nothing, but I think they are the old stereo wires. No plans for an amp at the moment. There a pair of Kenwood 6 x 9s in the rear right now.

On another note, I did fix the cruise control and the sagging driver door panel today.

Edit: I went to look in the compartment behind the passenger seat, and there is a jack, some wires, and nothing else. It appears that the rear speakers had amps at one time. I have not checked the front speakers yet. Plan to do that tomorrow. Since the old stereo was playing fine, I may just connect the new one to the existing harness.

I really want that SYS light off.

If the CDM is gone, is there any way to turn the SYS light off? Seems to me it is just going to be there.

Yeah, there's an inline resistor you need to install, don't remember where but a google search will find it for you.

Most of the searches take me to dead threads. All I really need is a good picture of the resistors and which wires they go to.

Here's a thread on another site that goes through the procedure.

The empty space behind the passenger seat is where the original tuner was installed; it was a separate component from the head unit in late C4s.

Crutchfield and other suppliers offer adapters that connect new head units directly to the existing wiring. My understanding from my own searches is that the adapters also address the CDM incompatibility, which is likely causing the SYS light to flash.

This is all assuming that the PO didn't completely butcher your wiring harness!

The new stereo is in, and the SYS light is off. Thank you guys for the links.

I love this car.
