It seems like every time I make this car happy it turns around and is upset about something else. It's a 1987 C4.
My odometer was turning to 110000 miles and for some reason it got stuck and stopped counting for maybe half a mile, then changed to 211000 miles. these are prone to failing I get that but are these easy to roll back? Obviously it's not that big of a deal since it's paid off and I'm unhealthily attached to the car, but since I'm taking my dash cluster out ANYWAY, I'd like the mileage to be correct for future oil changes. I know there are tools out there but are they necessary? I'll check the motor but I think the culprit is a gear. Just curious if anyone has had this weird situation where your car gets much, much older in under 2 minutes.
Your car has a tamper proof odometer. If it is turned back, silver lines will appear vertically between the numerals proving it been tampered with.If you don't plan on selling no big deal but if you sell could be.

I'd contact Bryan at Batee.com He actually has a youtube video of him assembling an early odometer. I don't believe the "separation mentioned" is an issue.
I'd think Bryan might offer the odometer assembled OR maybe you can do enough diagnostics after you remove the odometer to correct it yourself. If you have maybe a safety inspection that displays the most recent mileage I believe that would satisfy a specific mileage request.
Here's I believe a link to all of his youtubes and repair tutorials.
Thanks for the info guys! R&R will begin this weekend. I will let everyone know what I find. I heard flip flop responses about the silver lines. I hear it's no problem to turn it backwards or that the silver lines will show. I did write down what mileage it messed up at in my service manual so I won't forget. I'll get in contact with Batee tomorrow to see what's recommended. Just weird why the 100k number moved when obviously the 10s place needed to move. Who knows, it's always a new project with these things
