Default Jacking Help

What is the proper way to get the rear of my 84 up on jackstands with a floor jack?

Diamond,

I think it was Mr. Mojo who said he uses a piece of 4 X 4 under the spare tire carrier and puts the floor jack on that and jacks up the whole rear end, then places the jack stands on the frame ahead of the rear wheels in the places shown in the manual. I tried this and it works really good! A lot better than jacking up each side and trying to get a jack stand in there.

Yes, I use a 4x4 to help with the jacking. But I just acquired a "jack-a-vette" which goes on your jack and fits between the exhaust pipes and lifts the car by the differential.

Mr. Mojo,

Did you get it from Corvette Central? I see they have something like that.

I think that's the one, but I don't know, mine was donated to me by another forum member who had it donated to him.

A jack-a-vette is the way to go. If you can't get the floor jack under it, run the car up on some ramps, then jack it. Or alternately, if you only need a little clearance you can just drive it up on some 2 x 10's.

There is another alternative that I use. I bought an extra stock jack, and I jack both sides of the car simultaneously using the designated jacking locations. When I get it up I put the jack-a-vette into play, take the manual jacks away from the jacking locations and sub jack stands in their place.

I works real well, and I don't feel I'm risking torquing the car at all. I got the extra jack from Gene at Karshop on the forum.
