Default Vehicle speed sensor compatibility

Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm working on a 700R4 to ZF 6 speed swap project.

I'm putting a 1996 ZF6 into my 1990 auto car. The car already has 4.10 rear gears and the speedo reads 10% high. Also has an 8K ZR1 instrument cluster.

I ordered a set of speedo gears from Merle at Exotic Muscle, but now wonder if the 96 VSS will work with my 90 speedo. My parts list shows 2 different VSS's for a 90 6-speed and a third part # for a 96.

Anyone know?

You should only have to change the connector on the VSS BUT you'll have a different % of error. You bought what? A 13 tooth drive for the trans and a "how many" for the VSS? If you have 275/315 tires you should have asked for or been supplied I believe 43.

What color is the VSS in your A4? White or black? It should also be marked with tooth # compatibility.

Exotic Muscle built the differential that's in the the car and custom manufactures metal speedo gears for non OEM transmission/differential combos. GM gears were never made for ZF6/4.10. I gave Merle all of the details, but may have forgot to mention that the ZF6 is for a 96.

Not sure of the color of the existing VSS. 700R4 is still in the car. Can I tell from looking at the outside?

I didn't mention GM built and I doubt that Exotic manufactures/machines their gears either. If they're not supplying you with a 13 tooth drive, and a 43 tooth (plastic) I'd be interested in what it is that they're offering. Tire RPM matters. What size are yours?

Year of the ZF makes no difference.

Yes the color and the tooth compatibility can be confirmed visually on the A4.

NW PA is where?

Your A4, if your VSS is black and marked 40+ on it you could transfer yours with the appropriate driven gear to avoid the connector change. If it's white and stamped 34 - 39 then you can't.

The one in your '96 ZF the connector shouldn't be centered and requires the connector change.
