I am building up a 1986 L98 engine and I have a fuel rail from an '88 with Multec injectors # 5235302. First question that I have is are injectors interchangeable with fuel rails. I also have a fuel rail from an 85 ( it has the 2 different size ines going to it). I am not sure which rail I am going to use yet so can I put these 88 injectors in that line? Second question is that after looking a different injectors they all seem to have some type of cap on the tip. These have nothing as shown in pictures. Are they supposed to have something that got left in the intake manifold when they were pulled off. Still learning about all these injector issues so any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
Multec injectors are not ethanol compliant and will not last when using the fuels we have today...I second the suggestion to call Jon at FIC , he takes care of the people on this forum......WW
So if I read between the lines here, it's not even worth the time to wipe the dirt off the Multecs! And I have already gotten Jon's phone # and I am writing up some questions for him. I have had lots of experience with a '93 300 zx and it's injectors not liking ethanol etc.. At least on this car you can SEE the injectors, on that car you almost had to remove half the intake just to unclip them and ohm them out. Thanks for the replies.

I believe from the pics, you have first generation bosch injectors. I am not sure when GM switch to RP multechs - probably 1986, maybe 86 with aluminum heads - ??? the first generation bosch should have a "hat" (I think that's what they call it), or a cap on the tip. original 1985 bosch injectors are 24# where multech should be 22#. physically, they should be interchangeable. as for the fuel rails, not sure, other than maybe the FPR's - ??? original bosch injuector are a fairly good injector, and I would say better than multechs. as far as what's interchangeable between fuel rails, etc, can't help much.

Go with the injectors from FIC. I replaced mine 4 years ago and I am very pleased. I bought the fuel rail kit as I had the entire fuel rail system out of the car. Very much improved my idle and over all performance. Tough to do for a stock 88 C4.

Is it that difficult? IDK. I haven't had a stock intake since 93 or 94. I have a HSR right now and it is EASY to take them out. I don't think you should waste time doing the Ohm test since they give little more than "The Coil is fine. Life is good.". IOW, a false sense of security. I'd figure on taking them out every 3 years, clean the IAC housing and TB and in the mean time, send the injectors for cleaning and testing. They get clogged up GRADUALLY so unless it is a catastrophic failure, you will be saying "I see no problem". I had that same issue on my MB. After cleaning and testing, it still felt fine. Report said we had a bunch of crud but it did feel fine. However, the mpg went up.
RE: the Z. They had brackets that had to be removed to take the injector out and they each had 2 screws in them. You literally had to take the upper plenum off to access 3 or 4 of the screws,or dremel the heck out of the plenum. I have blocked most of it out of my mind ( that was the only really bad design on the entire car and I owned it and took apart a lot of it for over 10 years). It was a pain. And they wouldn't plug up, they would just out of nowhere drop out. ANyway I will be contacting FIC in the next day or two ( after the holiday family visitors leave!) Thanks to all.

What a royal nightmare. Thankfully it is pretty simple on the L98 engines which is why I can't figure out why people will argue about 3000 or 5000 mile oil changes but cannot comprehend sending the injectors out for cleaning and testing every few years. Instead, they rely on the "butt dyno" to feel if there are problems and the stupid Ohm test to tell if the injectors are right. Strange.
Just got off the phone with FIC and they set me straight for what I need to finish up this part of my project. Bosch 3 @ 22 lbs. for my almost stock engine. Then I can sell off the extra stuff that I won't need, extra manifold, rail and fuel lines. I'm an old guy ( just got my Medicare card!) but I still love learning new stuff. Thanks to all.
