Trouble starting
My 1985 was taking 3 or 4 tries to start. Once it started the "check engine" light would come on. I would turn it off and it would restart immediately and the light would go off. I had a mechanic look at it and he told us to replace the fuel pump which we did tonight. Now it will not start at all no matter how many times we try. Any ideas out there? Thank you in advance for your help!!

The CEL would not indicate a bad fuel pump. You need to pull the codes since you have a CEL and see what is indicated. I would also check the basics of fuel pressure and spark and go from there for a start.

Now since it will not start...I do not have the codes..any ideas what may have been the issue from the start?

turn the key on a few times without cranking to fill the system and test the pressure. the pump should run for two seconds when doing this. if not check connections and fuses.
pull the vacumme line off the fpr and smell for fuel.
