Need help with a 383 that I had Golen's (MA) build. Don't have much time to mess with it sinse I got Married ;-) BUT really do miss my old 85! Anyone around MA know of any good Mech. that know about modified L98's?????

Well, I have'nt talked to Chad yet (owner of Golen's) BUT I never got my engine on time, say 6 months off schedule... And found that one of the rocker studs that was reconditioned by them (AFR190 heads) was set up
with the wrong Stud after the old rocker stud was stripped! It was bottoming out my dam Roller rocker! I asked how could that happen, and his response was "well thats why I like the old style non-roller rockers". Well, I had this engine built for the purpose of adding lots of boost. Carroll
Superchargings been begging me to close a deal with them but I wo'nt till
the engines got some miles... Bottom line, in the next week or two I'll see how well his customer service is!!!! I talked with J&D (a vette place in Lynn) and we figure that the engine should be pulled. Heck I've been playing with l98's for years, and if the warrentee they have allowed me to
check the timing gear etc.. I would...

The engines suppose to be an internally balenced 383, JE pistons, Custom roller cam, etc... For a SC application and I find that no one checked the clearence on the replaced stud????

OK After, replacing and testing just about everything... I am really wondering if the cam, valve timing is correct.

On the flip side I heard he does build good stuff, just I think this was one of his first TPI's that was intended for some serious boost!

Well, chances are I'll be pulling the engine and having it redone... I was hoping for a hot shot mechanic around Boston that I could have taken it to for a second opinion...

What are you asking Golens to build for you?

Well..... I was asking them for a roller-cam 6" rod 383ci shortblock with all forged internals. I have since decided to go elsewhere after getting a few horror stories and now adding your experience.

I might just buy the parts, have a place clearance the block and assemble it myself.

Yeah I was warned the 30th about them. It was a damn good thing too, i was ready to go down there with $1000 cash tuesday as a deposit to have them build it.

 

I went in throwing "darts" if you know what I mean, till I find out for sure
that its the engine.
I did want this engine dyno'd before the install and he did'nt look happy...

If you've got info. on how he likes to resolve disputes definately drop me a line... In other words, did the peoples horror stories get resolved in a just manner... Or was there a lot of BS and feet dragging....
