My brake lights have not been working except for the high mounted brake light. I replaced the brake light switch, and the turn signal lights and hazard lights all work fine. I'm not sure where to head next to try and solve the problem.

What year? It's wise to always mention the year when looking for help.
There are separate contacts in the turn signal switch for brake lights when no turn is selected. When you turn the signal to one side or the other, that contact is opened and a second one made to insert the flasher instead to that side. You must have either a broken wire from the brake light switch up to the turn signal, or the switch itself is loose or corroded. After the turn signal switch, the wiring, filaments, connectors, grounds all are the same one used for both, so you can eliminate all that.

Your '89 CHMSL operates from the feed to the ABS, the 4 STOP through the directional switch. In that thread that "65GGvert" referenced you to you could check the same feed to the "P" terminal of the directional. You've replaced the switch so you check at the switch and if there's voltage to the WHITE wire at the switch and it's present at the "P" terminal it would seem to indicate that you've a directional switch issue.
Certainly check the switch and the connector first.
You might try (I never have/never need to) maybe making sure the HAZZARD is released all the way, for the STOPS to function I believe the directional needs to be in "neutral". Maybe a few ON/OFF functions of the HAZZARDS might help, these things get very little "exercise". Exercise is good.
