Default 1994 knock sensor question

I did a search first, so be kind.
I removed my knock sensor from my block to drain all coolant, for cam swap, head work. The service manual states not to apply thread sealant to sensor threads. This doesn't sound right, as I think it will leak What have you guys done?
thanks, Gary

It has to be the right dope and the right torque. I put in new could not bring myself to put back 20 year old parts. They are cheap and come with the proper dope. You will be able to get the proper torque with them 14 lbs if I remember right.

They make a sealant for doing sensors, it's called "sensor safe" and it won't cause you to lose your ground....WW

I removed and reinstalled my knock sensors without adding any sealant. Torqued to 14 ft lbs. No leaks over four years later.

I believe that the factory new knock sensors come with a thread sealant already applied to them, so no need to add more. If you're reusing sensors - I would add some sealant.

That makes the most sense to me. But all it takes is a simple resistance measurement to verify u have a low resistance ground. And it think u will get a trouble light/code with a bad ground. Maybe someone sells a conductive sealant but I don't know of any.

Please post what u find out. It helps us all.

When i've done mine, i've replaced them with others as brand new, there was a factory sealant on it.

What would be the problem with out sealant? Coolant spill from there?
