Default Roller rockers

Been racking my brain on what roller rockers I want to get. I'm doing a whole top end upgrade. Afr 180 heads, porting my intake and plenum. And installing as&m runners. My new heads came with 7/16 studs and I have to get non self aligning rockers.

I was thinking about these since they had good reviews and have a fair price

Or if I want to break the wallet a little more I was looking at these.

I do want to use my stock valve covers and I heard that I would just have to grind the oil tabs.

There are many here, myself included that use Scorpion roller rockers. You want a narrow body rocker. Yes, you will have to grind off the oil drip tabs. You may also want to go to a thicker valve cover gasket.

I was looking at those also. Still a bit pricey. But if that's what all the other c4 guys are using then it's probably the best choice.

Look at Amazon and EBAY for a good supplier...you can often find a good deal on them.

Others here use Comp Cams Gold Rockers...also pricey.

Well found a problem. Can't get narrow roller rockers for 7/16 studs. Apparently can only get them for 3/8.

No one makes narrow rockers to fit 7/16 studs , get the standard rockers...I also suggest either the Scorpions, or I even went a step higher and got the Crane Gold rockers..Either one will be a great rocker for your motor...I believe you can use standard valve covers, but getting a little higher valve cover will eliminate any chance of contact between the cover and the rockers...Proform makes a real nice set of covers that are only 1/4" higher then stock , you can get them in either Chrome , Polished , or the black crinkle finish...They're a great valve cover at a fair price...WW

Yeah I've seen the pro forms on summit. I do want to stick with centerbolt covers. Especially since I had to pay for the machining for the bolt holes. Yes afr doesn't do both valve cover bolt patterns anymore. Have to ask for centerbolt.

Crane Golds will never fail. T'hey do cost $$$. Personally, I don't like Comp Cams. They spend a lot on marketing but their products are inferior.

I'm probably gonna go with scorpions. Seems like a good choice.

You can kinda compare widths of rocker from the pics in the slideshow of this mag article, looks like proform and Harland sharp are narrowest to me. Then maybe email or call the co your interested in and ask the width.

Yeah those Harland sharps look pretty narrow. On summits site it even says will fit centerbolt valve covers with some modifications.

The problem isn't the width of the rockers , it would be the height if your trying to get away with using stock covers...Proform makes all three of their covers in both center bolt and perimeter bolt to fit any head design......WW

Here's a pic of my Crane Gold rockers , (they're a thing of beauty).......As you can see there's plenty of room between the rockers...I also installed a set of Crane lifters at the same time , I like Crane products...

I think I made up my mind on what brand to get. Now the other issue what about 1.5 or 1.6 ratio? I'm running a zz4 cam. I was thinking of maybe 1.6 on intake and 1.5 on exhaust. But not sure whether I want to do that or just go 1.5 on all.

Long runner go with 1.6 intake to help it out, short try both 1.5 or 1.6

Regardless of the rocker arms u have have to clearance them to the spring retainer and the stud itself. Crane cams has good info on this w/specs. U may what to considered 3/8" studs as I believe they use the same mounting bolt size as the 7/16" studs.

Hope this can help.

scorpions Ok not as good as crane..anything is better than Proform imo. Maybe theyve gotten better over the yrs but once is all it takes for me

Well I ended up ordering a set of scorpion endurance rockers. Made for the 7/16 studs and their shorter to clear stock valve covers.
