Hi I am new to Vette ownership as I recently purchased this vette from my aunt and uncle who just recently passed away. It has the keyless entry and it seems to be possessed. Anytime I come near the car with the inside of the key fob (copper wire part) in the key chain, with or without the battery in, the locks go crazy. Lock, unlock, security alarm will engage. I am stumped. Any help would be appreciated.

If you walk near the car with the PKE fob, it should unlock, if you walk away it should lock. You can turn the PKE function off and see if you prefer it that way. If you have the owner's manual, it will describe the function and how to disable and change operation of the fob.
This is way too vague. What is on, indications, symptoms or problem happening.
PKE is "always on" but if you're in the car, you're not walking to or from it. It normally should not be doing anything.
sorry didn't mean to be vague. just don't know if pke light should be on while cars running.. and I didn't get a fob with car keys when I bought this vette...

If you don't have fobs anyway, pull fuse #26 in the passenger side fuse box and you'll be good to go. It's a 5 amp and here's a picture where I pulled it out of mine.

The lamp should only light under normal operating conditions when you first turn the key to the ON position. It should light for 2 seconds and then go out. If it stays on probably the PKE receiver is defective.
The receiver drives the lamp and not much else influences that. So a repair means to replace the receiver.

First, read the owners manual and make sure you understand how the system works. It is normal for the doors to lock when you approach the car with the fob, and unlock (and arm the alarm system) when you walk away with it (as 65GGvert already stated). It's hard to tell from your description if there is really a problem. Having said that, if it is happening with the battery completely removed from the fob I don't know what to say. There is no way the fob should have any affect on the system if unpowered.

Lock when you walk away, unlock when you approach. I know you know that, but didn't want to confuse awegj.
