Convertible Deck Solenoid
Hi all. The switch that opens the deck on my 91 vert quit and I think the solenoid may be bad as the door switch doesn't work either. I have the shop manual but it doesn't tell me where the solenoid is or how to open the deck manually. It's happened once or twice over the last couple of years, but now it's dead. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Iirc , the solenoid is on the backside ( inside the trunk area) of the drivers wheel well. There is a plastic manual release that's right below( I think) the latches. You lift that and it opens the latch. I had to do it once when my battery was dead but I was working on my car, a 95 vert. You might also need a helper to get the other side, as they need to be opened at the same time unless you prop something under the deck lid to provide positive pressure up. Hope this helps. I'm a little ambiguous in spots, Im recalling this from memory. Good luck

Op - you mention the FSM and 10-9B will have component locations. Manual release is year specific with '89 - '92 maybe being similar. It is covered and also is displayed in images in the 10-9B section of the FSM I believe.
In the wiring diagram the page following the diagram in nearly all instances displays related component locations. I don't have a 'vert but I've sourced parts for a few friends. 8A-121 for all years I'd think.
This might help:

You should be able to hear the deck solenoid relay clicking when you press the switch.
My '86 has some wiring weirdness going on with the hatch release switches. The ones in the doors are grounded through the courtesy light delay module. The interior lights must be on to open the hatch (door(s) open). The button in the center console gets its ground in two ways, depending on whether you have an auto or manual trans. If you have a manual trans the emergency brake must be on. If you have an auto trans it must be in Park or Neutral. Fun fact: the ground comes from the starter solenoid. You can't open the hatch while cranking the engine.

Thanks for the replies. Soon as the weather get a little warmer I'll squeeze in there and try the suggestion for manual release and will check for the location of the solenoid. Much appreciated!!

Ah, if nothing happens when you use the hatch switches you did check the fuse, right?? I believe its number 5 in the fuse box on the right side of the instrument panel.
