You can put in the new 85-89 pump without doing anything to the FPR.

My '84 is stone stock except for the 85-89 pump and runs just fine.

From my understanding you do not need to tinker with the FPR until you start flowing more fuel by changing or porting the existing intake.

When you pick up your new pump check to see if it comes with a new connector. The connector on my '84 was different from the 85-89 connector and I had to run out and pick one up. Unfortunately I have forgotten the GM part # but you should be able to search the forum and find the number.

Also make sure it comes with a new sock.

If you can turn a screwdriver, you can swap the fuel pump with no problem.

Got the old pump out in 20 minutes no issue. No sock with the new one. Bigger problem is the wiring is completely different. The new one came with a wiring set up. When I unhook the old pump there are wire that run into it then into some small looking box thing. I don't even know how the new wires would hook up to it. Any suggestion? Thanks.

Sorry just saw this.
I'm on my mobile now, however grumpys performance garage has a thread i hijacked with my build.

The build thread is for the renegade intake/crossfire

Near the end i posted full details with part numbers and links.

Also in the thread i posted different fuel injectors with part numbers sorted by the flow rate.

I used that and cross referenced to a more generic fuel injector.
If i recall correctly the 80lb were rj11...
