I finally got around to install my OBX exhaust on my 1987 vette.
This exhaust is absolutely not plug'n'play. It was simply not possible to install it without major modification, with the help of a friend (expert welder) we used about 8 hours on cutting, testfitting and tig welding it back together just to get a decent look...
It would have been better if they didnt assemble it and just supplied the bends and pipes...
Welcome to the world of hot rodding where almost nothing really "bolts on". lol
How does it sound?
Well, I was prepared for that, but not to cut up almost every weld. We didnt remove the tips from the mufflers but almost everything else.
You probably get what you pay for
I've only rev'd it a few times, so don't really know how it sounds yet (still needs a bit engine work). Idle and upto 2000 rpm does sound better than the muffler eliminators I had on before.
There are others here with this exhaust in the past with no real tools or know how and they did it.
I wonder if something changed or you were sent the wrong kit?
I bought this exhaust about 2-3 years ago so it may very well have been changed. Everything looked like it was for the L98, just assembled with wrong angles. For example, when the left muffler was placed so the tips was as in the pictures, the tube from the muffler going to the engine, would be off by 30 degree. It's not the LT version.
really appreciate your review ron thanks. ive been putting off buying exhaust for my 87 but my driverside muffler just broke free.
i was planning on buying obx, L98, and getting installed by a muffler shop because of the flavour of other reviews. your review with hours estimated confirmes it. thanks!!

Well, the hours included joking, eating, enjoying the good weather and welding the assembly into three parts for easy removal and reinstallation, so it could probably be done quicker. As other have said, it might be a hit or miss with these products depending on your luck, so it might not take as much work :-)
I believe it has been documented on here, I know at least once about the fit/finish/installation issues related to the OBX system. Great price/terrible fitment issues. However, folks are happy when they are FINALLY done with help from a professional to get them right-basically modifying the exhaust like you point out with new welds.......
Looks great-I assume they are stainless, so I guess the price even after paying for help is worth it....
Don't get me wrong, I would probably buy them again. Not many low cost SS exhaust available for the C4.
Didnt cost me more than a bottle of argon gas, don't know how much you pay for reworking something like this in the US :-) But just don't buy this exhaust and expect an easy install, if it's as bad as mine.

Ron and others who have installed obx, all threads have made it clear they are not bolt on, however there is mixed results (opinions?) on if there is drone.
Ive heard they are as good as corsa and the guy said something about using x pipe and resonators.
another guy said they were so bad he was going to pull them off the car.
windering about those pieces ron that didnt fit for you, were those resonators and do you have drone?
cheers. VT

I think they are supposed to be cats + some pipes that were too long.
I have not driven the car yet with the new exhaust, still waiting for parts.
