Default L98 Engine Bolts

I'm currently attempting to change the head gaskets in my 91 coupe. Thanks to some rather crappy bits, I stripped the bolts that hold the bottom of the intake onto the heads themselves (so close!!). Being I know that they have to be drilled out, my question is where can I find some new bolts that will actually fit and are preferably don't require these damned star bits

Have you tried to take a chisel and tapping a notch into the side of the bolt and taping with a chisel and hammer in a loosening direction, once it budges you can take a channel lock and remove.

As for the bolts I don't think it would hurt you if used a similar quality and size bolt, use a thick washer to recreate the larger shoulder like the factory bolt has

I had the last torx head bolt next to the windshield wiper motor completely round out on me while trying to remove the intake on my 88. I used a Dremel cutting tool along with a chisel to remove the head of the bolt so I could remove the intake. PITA. ARP makes bolts to replace the #40 torx head bolts to a standard size, 3/8’s I think.

I like 12-point hardware and there's a variety of resources where they can be purchased. I'd think ARP has a 12-point offering (never looked) but maybe actually "local" also.

Here's a link just to give you an idea of the appearance of a 12-point "flange head" offering.

Would they USPS a lesser quantity? Maybe but I'm guessing they're geared towards "volume".

Since you are going to toss those bolts, maybe you can tack weld a piece of metal to the stuck bolt which should give you some leverage?

Tons of places have bolts or bolt kits http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g1491/overview/

I used local hardware store 6 point grade 8 on one tpi car awhile back, just used some SS I got local on my 86. You should use sealer on your intake bolts even the centers with the L98 alum heads since they go thru and may seep oil some. Then because of the sealer(considered a lubricant) you should reduce the torque spec a bit.

First I would suggest trying the next size TORX bit on the bolt. Use a hammer to tap it in place and then try removing. If that doesn't work, try the Dremel and cut a slot across the head. Then using a cold chisel in the cut slot, start taping to work the bolt around.

If you still can't get it then was suggested above.....weld a nut to that sucker.

The last thing you want to do is to try cutting off the head or drilling it out.

Replacement bolts are out there at may Corvette Parts houses or thru you hardware stores.
