I just got my 91 Vette out of storage...new battery, full tank of fresh gas....cranks great for like 5 to 8 seconds then starts...runs great. but everytime you start it...it turns over extra long? Ideas?
Just bought my 1990 it had been parked for some time. Been driving for the Last month and drove over 2000 miles and suddenly started to have issues starting. No other issues noted. Yesterday went to go to lunch and would not start. Found a bad fuel pump. The filter was filled with a black sand but nothing in the tank. Must be from the pump. I would check the fuel pressure on yours.
Try turning your key on a few times without cranking it then start might just be a bad filter or sock weak pump or leaky pulsater. Try putting a pressure gauge on it.

Not likely the regulator if, once started, the car "runs great".

Fuel pump relay. When you "Key ON" (not crank, just turn it to "on") does the pump run? I bet it doesn't.
The pump circuit has a back up; when oil pressure builds above ~4 PSI (from cranking the oil pump) a pressure switch closes and sends "back up power" to the fuel pump. I bet your fuel pump relay is not functioning, the car is eventually starting after building oil pressure on the back up circuit.

I had a similar issue with my '95 Blazer many years ago.
Listen for the pump when you turn the key on. If you don't initially hear the pump, I would agree with the previous post that it may be a relay issue.
It could also be a leaky injector allowing the fuel pressure to bleed down after the car sits for a bit.
My Blazer would start fine if it only sat for 10-15 minutes or so. It was only after it sat for a couple hours that it took a few seconds for the needed fuel pressure to build backup.
If it was running fine when you put it away I would suspect some varnish has built up on the injectors. Might be as simple as pouring a bottle of Techron in the tank or maybe a Seafoam induction treatment.
based on the info given, this is the most likely answer. in a quiet place after the cars been sitting for at least a few minutes when you turn the key to the on his issue you should hear the pump in the back of the car make a buzzing noise for two seconds and then stop. If you don't hear that noise it's the fuel pump relay. common and easy to fix. i *think its location and shsp* changed a bit so track down which is right for your year. rock auto has a thorough catalog system.
