my 1995 vette has an intermitant noise when starting. It only happens when the car has been sitting for a couple of days without starting. When it happens it only lasts a second or so, then goes away and doesnt grind at any other time when starting. The sound appears to be coming from the left front of the car and it doesnt sound like it is coming from the engine. I almost think it is coming from the headlight motor. Does this sound logical??
No ... No noise when turning lights in and off. Only for s second or so when starting
Just a WAG but if it sits and the light sags a touch it might be trying to cycle. And the pucks will be needed. Have you replaced them yet. Also look at your airpump it is right there and might be making the noise.

Yes I have replaced the nylon bushings on the right side. I replaced the motor on the left side with a rebuilt unit I purchased I. eBay from a vendor recommended by someone on this forum. I was interested in knowing if that noise could be coming from the headlight motor and I may have s bad rebuild. Haven't considered the air pump. Guess I can start unhooking power from headlight and then air pump to eliminate one
I still get the grinding noise from the left front when starting the vette after it has been sitting for a couple days. The headlight motor is a rebuilt unit from a vendor on ebay that was recommended on this forum. The headlights work fine, doors open and close without problems or noise, Right side motor has been rebuilt and left motor is a rebuilt unit. The chevy dealer says its the headlight actuator, stan 8t8 who sold me the rebuilt unit says there is no power that goes to the motor until the headlights are turned on and there is no way it could be the headlight motor unless a headlight module is letting power go to the headlight motor when the car first starts up. When I un hook the headlight motor, the noise goes away. The chevy dealer mechanic says that the headlight motor energizes when the engine starts up. I am at a loss, does anyone know if power goes to the headlight motor when the engine starts up? This noise only lasts for a second or so. Hard to believe the rebuilt motor is the problem, but it stops when I unplug the motor
Cannot hear it from here but never heard a module grind. Do you still have the old one?
Modules don't grind but they do send power to the headlights and possibly could cause the headlight moter to energize... Maybe? That's what I'm trying to determinr
Just disconnect the wiring harness for both headlights.
Then try it again.......
I've disconnected the headlights and the grinding noise away. What I'm trying to find out is there anyway the headlight motor powers upfor a second or so without turning on lights for

Yes if they are loose I believe so. You can test this by turning the **** on the other side open it up a bit then start the car.
