Default 1993 LT1, Code 32

Saw my service engine light come on today, on the highway. When I got to the bank, I pulled out the paper clip and scanned for codes. Code 32 came up, which is EGR. SEL only comes on when I'm on the highway. Following code 32 in the FSM, it says to manually lift on the EGR. I don't see how I can manually lift on the EGR. I can only push it in, towards the firewall. And when I do that, the engine revs higher. So how am I supposed to lift on the EGR?

EDIT: Vacuum lines are in good shape, no leaks.

Tap it a few times then reset and try.

Most EGR valves are not mounted sideways. Normally pressing on diaphragm opening valve causes engine to idle rough or stall. Engine running better with valve open at idle is odd I would pull valve off and inspect ports.

Took off the EGR. If I pull it all the way back, and put my finger on the vacuum nipple, it doesn't hold. Does the intake side look dirty?

The EGR connector does give me power in terminal A.

By that, do you mean to use a handheld vacuum pump?

The issue is more than likely the egr solonoid in which is no longer made. Code 32 comes and goes. I had a new chip burned by a company out west and I actually gained much more power that any other bolt on mod I have done so far. Contact Custom Chips Inc. and talk to John. They sell the "tuned" prom chips and a moates G1 memory adapter so you dont have to send your factory chip/memcal in. Price is $65 shipped
These guys seem to be on top of their game and specialize in TPI tuning.

I put a new EGR in. Haven't really been able to see if it's good now. Every time I got on the highway, it was stop and go traffic. But with my old EGR valve, it would rev higher when I pushed on the plunger. New EGR, it stalls the engine when I pushed on the EGR. And new EGR holds vacuum with the finger test.

Glad you got it fixed.

My '88 was similar. The EGR was bad and would not respond to vacuum. I got a replacement from a local parts store. It would not hold vacuum. I got another from them and it would not hold vacuum. I got a third one and it was the wrong part in the right box.

I ordered a new AC Delco. It held vacuum and it worked on the car. No more code 32
