Default Now what, McFly ?? Turn signal switch

Irritated over a turn signal switch failure, got as far as in the pic, symptoms are the same as this dude wrote in the link below, tore the SOB down just got the plate off, I'd rather rebuild the motor than deal with this idiotic nonsense. should I just pull the motor and part the car out ? $1000 and its yours, sans the engine. All over a busted turn signal switch, LOL. Punch a GM steering column engineer in the mouth today

Chris, sorry to hear. About making a decision to sell over a fairly easy cancel cam OR blinker arm u-joint replacement. At what point are you stuck?

Got the big yellow ring "turn signal switch" out. After that, I'm miffed because I thought I had a partial monopoly on insanity but now realize the GM engineers beat me to it. I can't even see what the problem is, or how to get the idiotic lever off its pivot point, or whether I need to or not. 1/4 stick of dynamite fixes all this ****

Further forensic investigation reveals the attached photo below of a partial casting found on the floor

lol. im with you how stupid complicated (and how much crap was over-crammed into a bad design).

vats wires
an airbag
an extra heavy tilt spring to account for the after thought of the airbag

who puts steel pivot pins in aluminum housings and expects it to stay together.

It appears the blinker piviot assembly. Did not break at the steel pin. A diagram to help guide you. to remove the outer housing. Then examine that broken piece. You are correct it's tedious work. Just to get your blinker lever in working condition. After your done. Nothing to show off. The time spent. I believe you have a 93? It's the same up to 96.

Yeah, its a whack job. I have the manual, and according to it, it appears the lock assembly cover housing and lock cylinder set has to come out per section 3F5B8-11. I hope I'm reading it wrong. Do local fire departments give tax breaks for people who donate their vehicles for them to practice on ?

They can be a pita a few at the plant could take them apart in a few minutes. But they went for training where they were built. Just take it real slow pay attention and take pics as you go or you will do more damage than good.

If you were closer I would gladly give a grand then call my friend over for dinner and it would be done before the steaks were.

But I really need a new car.....
had it nine years so far. What i like is the shift sequence 1>>3>>5 on the zf6, fifth is a nice HP range for most urban driving, even with my relatively low dyno numbers.

I'm just a t the point where I have to start storing the little pieces and parts from this job neatly for future reference andI wasn't in the mood for accounting

was there any column slop in the tilt mechanism? (ie. the steering wheel moves off axis down and to the left).

if so, perhaps now is the time to replace the housings and pivot pins.

or i believe there is an oversized pin mod that fixes slop without replacing the hard to find steeing column housings.

No, I've been real careful to not use the steering wheel as a hand rail when entering or exiting the vehicle, its pretty tight.

Do you .know what parts are needed to fix the slop? Which parts from the diagram in post #6?

Many times you just need the one oversized pin.

okee dokee, finally had the luck to figure the rest of this out, got it all apart and ordered what I need, $79. Cost 179 at another place so I saved a hundred bucks http://specialtypartsdirect.com/Wipe...-93_p_115.html
