Is it necessary to remove the vibration dampner prior to removal of the motor?
I've tried to remove it once before but it was hard coming off and I stopped because I didn't want to break anything.
Is there a trick to removing it with the puller?
In my Hayes manual it shows putting an extension in between crossmember and lines. I tried doing that but couldn't. Do I need to remove the radiator to do it the way it's shown or can I do it from underneath?
I think they tell you to remove it because it needs to be replaced on the new motor. If it doesn't have to come out prior to removing the motor from the vehicle maybe it's easier to take it off after it's out of the car?
Thanks again for your help.
I removed mine in the car. Double check to make sure you pulled all your bolts including the large middle one. Shooting some penetrating oil were the balancer mates with the hub probably wouldn't hurt either.
Also (please excuse the dumb question) are you using the adapter that the puller pulls against? ....goes in first where the big bolt WAS ...... sorry but I had to mention that, my students sometimes forget it.
