Default pushrod question

In the next few weeks I am replacing my camshaft and originally I was told that I should replace all of my pushrods when I am in there. I am putting a modified LT1 intake on my 1990 and I was told that the factory pushrods weren't capable of handling the higher RPM's of this intake. Is this true? I am only planning on running this motor to around 6300 RPM.

But I have been reading through some old posts and it seems that at least with the LT1 you don't need to install new pushrods. Does anybody have an answer for me?

RPM has no effect or bearing on a pushrod. The strenght of the valve spring and the ramp angle of the cam can apply excess pressure on old or weak pushrods though. If your rate of lift is not too extreeme on your cam or your spring pressure is not higher than stock the rods should be ok. The other school of thought is your in there replace them anyway because the ends can become brittle and crack or mushroom under pressure due to age.

the motor has 106,000 miles on it and I am planing on using either a LT4 hot cam or something very similar with the springs that comp cams recommended ( i can't remember the p/n)

I agree with Jeff. My thought would be this. While you are in there, why not change them? They have alot better, lighter material nowday than before. This will all help out with higher RPM running.

I'd change them - and the lifters.

Check out these kit prices - they are pretty cheap.

12371042 - Roller lifter kit
12371041 - Pushrod Kit (non guideplate)

What rockers are you using ??

I was planning on using comp cams 1.6 self aligning RR's, that what I was quoted on anyways.

You need to check the geometry of the valvetrain with the new cam and make sure you get the right length pushrods. It may be different depending if the base circle of the new cam is different than the base circle of the old cam. Check it before ordering parts.

Ya, I sorta figured that I should just replace them since I'm in there so they will last a long time, i guess I am just trying to save a bit of money.
Actually I probably would have ended up spending the money on something else anyways..........
