EGR question???? intake manifold???
I,ve got an 85 with a 355 c.i. I,ve been lookind at the accel intake their is someone one the net that has one and he has a block off plate with it for blocking off the EGR why do you need to do that or want to do that and he also has a bottom plate he said that goes on the under side of the intake between the intake and the motor that comes with it but not included new what is that for ????

As far as I know, the EGR just pumps exhaust back into the intake. If you have a custom chip burned for it, you can have the EGR function deleted.
As far as the bottom plate on the intake, that prevents hot oil from splashing on the bottom of the intake and heating the air, thus reducing HP. :cheers:

The EGR reduced oxides of Nitrogen. It doesn't do anything at wide open throttle or idle. It is vacuum operated and because of that ......at WOT you have no vacuum so no EGR. Yes it re introduces some exhaust back into the intake to cool combustion at part throttle cruise. this is a good thing ..... You can make your own block off plate with a small peice of aluminum plate and cut it with a hacksaw and drill the holes following the gasket. Trim it up nice with a file and maybe even polish it. You can get aluminum plate material at Lowes or Home Depot for making home projects.
