Default 84 Interior Ventilation Controls

Does anyone have a write up as to how the interior ventilation system works? NO matter how I set the controls for heat or air, I always get the ventilation through the defrost vent. I started taking the dash apart then decided to reach out before I went too far.

Any pointers?

There is probably a vacuum leak in the engine compartment for hvac. It maybe on of the little black tubes broke on passenger side. Depending on whether you have C68 Auto or C60 manual vacuum control varies. Manual vacuum is controlled by valve on control head. Auto vacuum is controlled by programmer which directs air flow using sensors and input from control head. Defrost mode is a default because of lack of vacuum, the intent is to get windshield clear so car could be drive in acclimate weather

Look at the vacuum check valve (next to the distributor on the driver's side):

They're pretty cheap so you might want to just replace it.

Good call Cliff. Here is what I found. Guess I knocked them off when I was replacing the value cover gaskets.
