LT4 knock sensor is less sensitive to knock than LT1 because of the characteristics of the LT4. Installing the LT4 in a LT1 could lead to engine damage be cause timing doesn't retard when it should. Detonation pops hole in piston....extreme example. LT4 knock sensors can be difficult to find, unless your planning to mod engine your better off using stock parts.

IIRC, it's actually the knock sensor module that is different between the LT-1 and LT-4 engines. The knock sensors themselves are the same.

The knock modules LT1/LT4 are interchangeable. There are two different knock sensors OBDI and OBDII, not interchangeable.

I don't believe that's actually so -

The KS are the same for many years - I believe composition of the block and some internal components may change that but it's NOT an OBD1 or OBD2 thing.

The KM can be swapped LT4 to the LT1 and for years I believe it was a choice many made. The LT4 module disappeared years ago and were bringing premium prices for sure. Haven't seen much activity recently regarding them.

.
This is not my experience. Could someone look up the part numbers for 1995 OBDI vs 1996 OBDII.

I looked quickly last evening and used a '96 LT1'LT4 ACD catalog for an application which "is different" from '95 BUT has applications that span many years and models both OBD1 and OBD2

The direct link to a '96 catalog wouldn't stick but here's the catalog you can look for yourself. I didn't debate a Corvette application only your "generalization" OBD1 and OBD2 are different.

This has always been my understanding.

Physically they look identical but the internal shunt resistor is of a different value for the different PCM hardware. If you swap them, you will get a DTC 43 if I remember right, and the PCM will retard the timing as a safety measure so that means the car will lose a lot of performance.
