whats the diffrences between the 2 for a drop in swap
Excluding the injection system, the only real difference on the block itself would be the front timing cover using a pin drive opti rather than a spline drive. Additionally, a 96' block would have a provision for a CPS on the front cover.
Given the above, it's probably best to plan on migrating the 1995 PCM along with the engine, if that's an option.
3. 1992 uses a passively-vented Optispark distributor (has weep holes in the bottom of the housing). 1995 uses an actively-vented distributor (draws filtered air through the distributor, and from there into the intake). So either migrate the 1995 intake bellows if that's an option, or plan to drill a small hole in the 1992 bellows for the distributor vent hose fitting.
As noted by TorchTarga above, the camshafts, distributors, and timing chain covers are different, although this shouldn't interfere with an engine swap.
You will need to get a vent harness for the opti (or make one). You will also need the change the electrical harness for the opti. The later style vented optis had a different electrical connector.
Also, what is the LT1 coming out of? If it is a caprice/impala it may have iron heads.

From: Las Vegas - Just stop perpetuating myths please.
Computers dont care which GEN II they control and both early and late model opti's use the same siganl. So for a swap u only need a opti cable and use the correct opti vent for the model installed.
FWIW i'm running a late model opti motor ('95-'96) in my early ('94) opti camaro. Only those 2 items needed to change - opti cable and opti vent.

Hope this helps.
I think if you want the injectors to be sequentially triggered, the '92 PCM would not do the job without major re-programming work. If you don't mind them being batch-fired, the '92 PCM should handle the job just fine.
