Extreme Misfire / Backfire
Morning all, I've had this 89 for 2 weeks. Starts and runs great for maybe 10 miles then all hell breaks loose. Misfires awful, will engage for a second, then misfire again. Does not quit but idles rough. Then I have to limp home. Sometimes it will regain its composure and run smooth again. Check engine flashes occasionally during these spells but not steady. Any input will help.

Also noticed pressure relief from fuel filler cap when opened, normal? Never seen this before.

Your "Check Engine" light flashed, let's start by reading the stored codes and start your troubleshooting process at that point. That way you will have a logic track to follow.

The car will provide you with diagnostic codes, do you have a service manual? If not google "diagnostic code checking on C4 Corvette". List the codes present and we can proceeed from there.

I do not have a service manual. I had it scoped today,two different places. Both said code 34. Maf? Should I change it?
