Default Bilstein questions... made a mistake.

I just bought some used Bilsteins on Ebay for a good deal. Problem is that I didn't do my research and the fitment is not quite right.

I have a 93 base coupe without Z51.

The fronts I got are specifically for an 88 with non z51 (24-011310) and rears are for 88-94 Z-51 (24-011785).

What's the difference? Will I run into handling problems if I use these?

Fitment wise, the '88 and '93 should be the same.

Valving wise, I'm not sure. Someone else could answer that part better than I.

The advertised lengths both collapsed and extended vary some may say considerably. The shock you received(24-011310) is advertised as 10.47/14.37 and the correct "fronts" for a '93 base (24-020534) is advertised as 10.18/13.56.

Maybe call Bilstein or one of their jobbers and ask them directly.

Fit I believe so - "function well" - I'd think you'll either need to find out OR maybe resell to an '88 owner! I'd think there was a reason that the spec was changed in the '89 production.

if its a street driven car at standard ride height and hasnt been lowered, it shouldnt be a problem.

I agree with the others that on a stock ride height car they should fit fine.

I did some research on the damping rates when I was looking at shocks for my '95. The Z51 shocks have about double the damping rate of the base shocks. I have run the Z51 shocks on my base suspension '94 and '95 and love it.

I have not tried a Z51 rear and base front combination. I suspect they will work fine and probably a lot better than your old shocks (I am guessing you are replacing them because they are worn out.)

You have already bought them. Try them out. They will probably be fine. The tuning between different Bilsteins is probably very subtle.
