Default Smog pump ?

Is this a picture of the smog pump ?

It is an electric motor / pump. Has a line going to the catalytic converter

One to the passenger side valve cover and one somewhere else, I suspect down by the water pump.

When I delete the CAT can I remove this or at least the line to the CAT without throwing codes ?

Other than heating up catalyst, what exactly is its function ?

That would be the AIR diverter valve. There is no direct DTC for AIR system. So there should not be a ses light if it "fell off".

AIR system can help O2 go into closed loop quicker and tube to cat conv reduces conv temp.

The air is not for cooling the cat. It is to help the cat heat up faster because the catalysts have an optimal temperature.

At least that's what i have read here.

It's the soon departure of my cat that got me thinking about that piece of equipment.
That line will gnat least and I'll prob disconnect the power and see how the motor behaves.
