No, I dont think there are many bad vac gauges out there but any popular brand should be accurate enough. It helps if you know someone that can verify the calibration before installing. Auto Meter, Stewart Warner, even cheap Equus gauges should be good enough.
BTW i have on my '94 camaro dash right where most install a electronic tach and very happy i have it. It will show you a burnt vlv in a heart beat and monitors the cyls condition. I can see tiny load changes as the grade of the road goes up and down during cruise. Mine is a large 2 5/8" gauge with color operating bands/ranges.

Yea thats a Auto Meter product - should be good. You may want to mount it as close to your tach as possible as it helps when monitoring but your needle sweep will move opposite direction as the tach needle unless your tach is digital. I took my dash part way apart but mounted just where i wanted to - screwed the mount into the dash plastic. FYI the LT1 makes 'bout 18"Hg vac or more at idle.
On my LT1 i just tee'd into the vac port on the drivers side of intake using the nylon tubing that came w/gauge. Just keep the nylon tubing off the metal parts and it will live a long life. The nylon is flexible enough to route any where and if you loose the little compression fitting PepBoys sells replacements.
