Hi, I removed the air pump, associated plumbing and got new headers for my 85. There are two air control valves on the front of the engine, each with a solenoid control wire and connection. I removed the air control valves also.
Can I just tape these connector wires off or is there a signal going back to the ECU that I need to worry about?
Also, I haven't purchased an air pump replacement pulley assembly yet. I am thinking of buying the TPIS one, but I think $170 for a bracket and plastic pulley seems pricey.
I have heard of gutting the old pump and using that but I'm not sure how that works long term, plus it's ugly.
I don't know if I could build one myself, any other cheap options?

I bought used one off this site in great condition for 80.00. If you use gutted pump you still will have that mess under hood If you arn't using pump I would remove air deverter system also which includes tube down to cat. Don't forget to plug exhaust manifolds

I did exactly that on my 86 Trans Am. Never put a pulley or gutted the pump at all either. Never had any issues.
