I did a search on using nitrous w/ a SR. I found a one thread, but still have a couple questions:
1) Anyone have problems w/ nitrous pooling in the SR's large plenum?
2) A direct port kit would solve the problem, but is very expensive and time consuming. Between the NOS plate or NX shark nozzle, what would be a better solution?
Heh. Hello. I have no experience with Nitrous, so I can only go on what I have seen and/or read. I have heard of people blowing the lid right off of the superram because of puddling and I have seen first-hand a friend of mine run a 120 wet shot through his without any trouble at all.
I think what you need to do is just make sure you prevent a backfire. Make sure your valves are adjusted right and don't go crazy with timing. Even though NX says their kit does not require timing retardation I would still go back 2* for every 50hp you are going to throw at it.
Make sure you do not allow a situation where the nitrous can still flow while off the throttle. Make sure you use hte proper safety equipment like a full throttle switch, a fuel pressure cutoff switch, and probably most important something like an MSD window switch.
If I were to ever run Nitrous on my stick car I would plan on using the window switch to turn the nitrous off a godo 300 RPM or so before my shiftpoint. Why? To make sure that bigass plenum empties itself of nitrous before I'm off the throttle allowing it to pool in any manner.
nitrous on a super ram is not good unless you want to catch parts some people did get away with useing it i would not recomend it that manifold is a dry intake and i mean dry not like the lt1 or mini ram they are also dry but look at that big box they call a super ram it spells fuel dropout all over it and puddling and then some if you want to put nos on a super ram there are 2 ways in my opinion 1 is direct port by way of fogger nozzles right in the side of the ports between the box and lower intake i know ugly and probally in the way when you try and do valve adj the 2nd is send that bottem intake to nos they will plumb it from undeneath for between $400-$500 and it will work better also now from expierience from running the juice i would arm it in this manner 1st have a master toggle on off under dash then have a micro switch on the throtle body to activate it any thing more than 3/4 throtle then have it all turn on with a rpm switch at a say 3500-4000 rpm on dont forget to run 2 fuel pumps one for the motor one for the nos :D
I should be able to tell you more in like 2 months. I'll have to get in touch with them, but I think there will be about 4 superram cars spraying nitrous (or trying to) soon that I'll see at the tracks around here.
I am on the process of doing this, if I can only get away from work, I can put my engine back together.
I bought the runners from a forum member tapped for fogger nozzles installed in each runner. I dont know if it will be a big deal since it is pretty easy to remove the nozzles to pull a valve cover etc... we'll see when it is on the car.
I want to set up the system with it's own fuel pump and fuel supply, which means another fuel tank. This will allow me to use race gas when I hit the N2O. If I go with a 1 gallon fuel cell in the battery loaction, then this means a battery relocation is in order, and more wiring nightmares for me.
I have like 10 projects going on that car at the same time.... :chevy
I nearly went with a Nitrous system back in March when my intake gasket was being replaced. I was warned though, Super Rams are known for puddling, and this particular shop had seen a few ugly incidents due to improper tuning or greed like Scorp mentioned.
I can't seem to get myself to toy with Nitrous(It's the only power adder I HAVE NOT messed with) for some reason! I respect it, but also I'd like my power to be there A L W A Y S.
I agree, I would rather have the power there all the time too. That is why I did heads/cam/intake etc. before the nitrous. But it sure would be nice to pull a low 11 sec 1/4 mile out when it might be needed. ;)

I forgot that last line! the LOW 11 or 10 second time on a conservative shot of nitrous. my personality is all or nothing though. The minute I did that 10.99, I'd be trying to figure out how to do 10.7X :D We are NEVER satisfied. :D

Yeah, If I run 11.999 on motor and 10.999 on N2O, I'd probably do somthing obscene. I agree about never being satisfied, I'm already starting to plan out my next engine, starting with a Motown 427 shortblock. But unless something "unfortunate" happens to this engine, the 427 is a few years off.
