Default Super Ram, Mini Ram, or Stealth Ram????

i am going through the motions and am building a 383 with 10:1 (or slightly under) and more than likely the 74219 grind cam, now i know that this cam is "mated" for the super ram, but if i chose a different cam (and give me YOUR specs) which one should i go with, and what intake to go with it.
supporting numbers would be appreciated as well.

****don't care right now about fitment under the hood, just performance nubmers******

If you want a great street engine, go SR.
If you want a great RPM engine, go MR.

Yup. Makes more power higher in the RPM band.

with an 85, i would go SR, whether you have a manual or auto

if you had a 6speed, i would go MR, simply because you can use it better with the 6speed

I vote SR too. You will however double guess any other internal mods after its attached to the top of your engine. :D

Everyone always says how hard the SR install is...I had quite a difficult time installing the base but do not have the SR runners/plenum. Is it the base that is the hard part (I hope becuase it was a PITA). If the base is already installed would the runners/plenum be reasonably easy? TIA!

isnt the mini ram all one piece???? (as in the intake manifold and the plenum part) It seems this design would be much easier to work with if you needed to work on your motor alot.

the MR is far easier to work on but depending on your combo, trasmission and rear gear it's hard to say. if you cut off at 6,000rpm and have a auto car you will probably be faster with a SR. the MR starts to out perform a SR around 5000rpm but it will make more torque under that and maybe HP, it all depends on who you ask for the HP. over 5000 the MR really shines but if you shift before 6,000rpm the majority of your time is where the SR sweet spot is. if you use a 219 cam that thing will fall off about 5800-6000rpm it really is ideal for a SR. if you were shifting at 6500rpm and had a little more cam, a deep gear & high stall or a 6spd i'd say get a MR.

I have used all three intakes on my 383 vette, the super ram is an excellent choice, much better than the stock TPI with much better mid-range torque, but the steath ram is in my opinion is a better choice than the mini ram or the super ram if max power is your goal. the mini ram lacks the mid-range torque of the super ram or the steath ram and does not at least with all the cams Ive tried have any advantage at all in the high rpm range over the steath ram, in fact the stealth ram pulls harder than the other two intakes in the 5000rpm and over range yet still allows enough low end torque to destroy the tires at will. while its true the steath ram gives up about 50 ft lbs of torque at just off idle its a small price to pay for the 75-100 hp gain over the ported TPI intake it replaces, but keep in mind if you don,t have better flowing heads and cam than the stock chevy pieces youll not be able to use the steath rams far greater air flow. unported
the stock tpi flows about 210cfm per port (limits you to about 410hp)
the super ram flows about 250-260cfm per port (limits you to about 530hp)
the steath ram flows about 300cfm (limits you to about 615hp)

yeah, its a one-piece design, you just have to buy their fuel rails.

I was commenting on other internal mods being second guessed, due to the fact that you have to remove and replace the SR. Its a treat, but not all that bad. I took mine off 3x in one month....Long story. :bb

It depends what you want. Also remember, not sure if metnioned hte stealth will not fit under your hood. The SR is tough to beat for all around power.

I dunno, the first (SR) install was a PITA (holes didn't line up, first time learning curve, etc) but the second (re)install really wasn't that bad. Mind you I have skinny fingers - maybe that helps...
